This weeks blog is all based on my top 5 venues in Retford and the immediate surrounding area… no bribes, no persuasions just my honest truth.
Number 1 – Hazel Gap Barn
This stunning venue which is in the Cripps group is about 20 minutes away from Retford. This HAS to be number 1 for me since this is our chosen venue when we get married in less than a years time. The timeless classic of a country barn with all those stunning wooden beams and high ceilings gives it the rustic feel we quite fancied. With the natural flow between ceremony room, to the bar area through to the reception space it just lends itself to being a great wedding venue. The ceremony room itself has high ceilings which is covered with fairy lights and has a stunning open fire. It also has THE most stunning courtyard which is a central focus around the whole building with firepits it lends itself to both daytime drinks / canapes and photos through to that all important sparkler shot when the sun has gone down. Hazel Gap is an absolute rustic GEM and the venue that has my heart!
Number 2 – Bawtry Hall
Bawtry Hall is a luxury wedding just 15 minutes out of Retford. This recently renovated hall screams out sophisticated glam! With the stunning landscape gardens and the amazing ceremony room this really is one its kind in this area. This is an exclusive venue where your day is all about you and only you – every brides dream right! With hotel partner The Crown Hotel you really do have the best of both worlds here. Another thing I love about Bawtry Hall is that it has a couple of smaller rooms where you can put those little extras in like a photobooth – which gives guests the excitement of finding out what is where! Bawtry Hall lends itself to the most amazing photographs and you can go to Bawtry for your anniversary every year after!
Number 3 – The Pumping House
The Pumping House is a strong contender for me, purely because of its quirkiness! Our favourite thing about this venue is the fact that it is over 2 floors with the top floor having a full view down into the ground floor so you always feel like you are involved! On the first floor there are lots of smaller rooms which are themed so you can have a gin room or a rum room. There is also already a room full of childrens toys and games as well as a cinema room so there really is something for everyone here. Another brucy bonus for The Pumping House is that they have accommodation on site so the night before the wedding the bride and her tribe can stay over. The ceremony room here is also beautifully unique with huge windows overlooking the grounds!! Definitely a firm favourite of ours.
Number 4 – Oaktree Farm Weddings
Oaktree Farm Weddings is our favourite marquee / tent wedding venue by far. Out in the countryside not far from Newark this setting really is stunning. You can get married on site but it is outdoor which is perfect for those wanting something a little different to the traditional wedding! The team at Oaktree really are the professionals in stretch tent weddings and having all these grounds sure does get the best photo opportunities. If you are wanting a marquee / tent wedding then go and have a look – you will not be disappointed!
Number 5 – The Old Vicarage Boutique Hotel
My 5th and final favourite venue nearby is the wonderful The Old Vicarage Boutique Hotel. This is my favourite hotel by far and works great with having the rooms on site. The décor is contemporary yet classy and makes any colour scheme an easy match. With both an indoor ceremony room and an amazing outdoor pagoda you really are stuck for choice on where you get married. This would have been where we chose for our wedding but the ONLY downside to this venue is the capacity. With a maximum of 60 guests for the day and 80 guests for the night it just proved impossible to cut our guest list down. So if you are looking for something smaller without compromising on the beauty then this is simply the one for you.
There are millions of other venues which I love but these are just the top 5 in a close distance to Retford (where we are based).
See you next time, Rhianne xx
